South Bend Newborn Photographer | Newborn Photography Featuring Miss Anela

One Family’s Miracle Baby

It’s been a long time since Jeri Hoag Photography has blogged about a  newborn photography session. The last few weeks have been a whirlwind for JHP as this growing business not only experienced its first partnership with another small business, FAB40 Maternity, it also launched its first ever Maternity Portrait Session Event. But rest assured, while these recent events have taken a front row seat on social media, JHP is still busily working with her clients as they welcome their new little ones into their lives.

One of her most recent clients was sweet Miss Anela. Anela’s little life is nothing short of a miracle. Anela’s mama was diagnosed with breast cancer five years ago. Mom underwent surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation. She was also put on an estrogen blocker in order to ensure that the cancer would not come back.

When mom and dad decided to get pregnant, mom had to go off of her estrogen blocker. Mom said, “I knew trying to become pregnant was risky because the cancer could come back. But we both knew we would regret it if we didn’t at least try.” In March of 2016, at the beginning of mom’s third trimester, doctors discovered that not only had the breast cancer returned, but it had also metastasized to mom’s liver. Thankfully, because mom was already in her third trimester, she was able to begin chemo treatments right away that would not harm Anela.

Due to the fact that mom’s bile ducts are covered by the tumor, she has a bilibag which collects the bile from her liver. In May of 2016, mom was due for a tube change. The doctor that did the procedure tried to put a larger tube in her liver. However, the procedure did not go smoothly and the doctor had to put a smaller tube in. Unfortunately, while trying to push the larger tube in, the doctor also caused bacteria to become loose in mom’s blood stream. This resulted in an infection. Mom began to shake uncontrollably which triggered the onset of her contractions. Local nurses administered medicine but could not put an end to the contractions. Finally, it was decided that mom and dad would ride by ambulance to Memorial Hospital in South Bend because Anela was only at 34 weeks and 5 days.

Within a half-an- hour of arriving at Memorial, mom received an epidural and Anela was born by C-section.

“It has been a very difficult few months, but this little girl was worth everything I’ve gone through,” mom said. She also said, “Dad did great! He was very supportive the whole time, even though I know he was freaking out on the inside.”

Recently, mom and dad learned that the tumor in mom’s liver is not growing anymore The last step for mom is to get the cancer cells out of her body through either more chemotherapy, or drug treatment. Mom and dad have their baby girl and so much still to look forward to.

It is always an honor when Jeri Hoag Photography is chosen to photograph a newborn photography session. However, it is especially touching when Jeri is chosen to capture photos of miracle babies, the photos of children whose moms and dads have been through so much. A special thank you to Anela’s parents for choosing JHP for their newborn photography needs. Your story is truly an inspiration. We wish you the best of luck.

South Bend Newborn and Maternity Photography | Rashella D’Amico at Fab40 Maternity

Are you an expectant mom tired of the lack of clothing options in the chain stores near you? Are you fed up with the hassle that shopping during this special time in your life can be? Do you wish that Michiana offered an elective 3D/4D ultrasound experience? If so, this article is for you. Fab40 Maternity and Fab 4D Ultrasound is for you!

Jon and Rashella D’Amico own and manage FabForty Maternity, a maternity boutique located at 621 E. LaSalle Ave. in South Bend, IN. They have recently opened Fab4D Ultrasound as well. When asked why she began her businesses Rashella said, “I opened FabForty Maternity because I love being involved in women’s health [and] pregnancy, and it was a great way to engage with women on a personal level. I opened the ultrasound business because it was another need that I felt wasn’t being addressed in our community, and I’m hoping that over time my store can become a maternity hub of sorts where women can find anything and everything related to this time of life.”

Rashella says that her most favorite part of her work is working with women and being able to openly discuss the miracle and magic of birth.

Check out this article about Fab40 written by Meagan Church – mother, children’s book author, and driving force behind Unexpectant.

Family is very important to Jon and Rashella. Together they have a blended family of six. Their four children include Sarina – a sophomore at Culver Academy, thirteen-year-old Charles – a soon to be 8th grader, eleven-year-old Ezra, and the soon to arrive Rosie. Family and business keep Rashella rather busy. In her limited spare time she enjoys date nights with Jon, or the occasional weekend getaway. She and Jon like to go on motorcycle rides and find new restaurants to try.

Rashella is pictured wearing clothing from her boutique.

Rashella hopes that one day her store can be a one-stop-shop for all expectant moms. How fabulous would that be?

Clients who shop at Fab40 Maternity and Fab4D Ultrasound may be eligible for a special discount with Jeri Hoag Photography – just one more reason to stop on in and see Rashella!

South Bend Newborn Photographer | Custom Newborn Session with Kensley

JHP would like to introduce one of its recent clients – Kensley. This baby girl looks like her daddy, which is fitting since the name Kensley was chosen to honor her late grandfather on her daddy’s side. Both mom and dad had lost their fathers and they knew that they wanted baby girl to be a namesake. Kensley already has a cousin on mom’s side that carried on grandpa’s name, so mom and dad agreed to honor dad’s father, Kenneth. Dad chose the name Kensley and mom loved it.

Preparation for Miss K went smoothly. Mom and dad did much of the prep work along the way so as not to be overwhelmed as their due date drew near. Mom enjoyed her pregnancy and took pleasure in feeling Kensley move inside of her. “The worst part was the morning sickness and the swelling of the feet,” mom had to say about the not so glamorous aspects of pregnancy.

Reflecting on her labor and delivery mom said “Dad did very well.” They checked into Memorial Hospital at 8:30 P.M. on Saturday and Kensley was born at 5:01 P.M. on Sunday. “I wish I would have known that once you got admitted you could not eat anything (because of the epidural/anesthesia). I was so hungry after labor and delivery was over.” – A good thing to keep in mind for all of the expectant moms and dads out there.

Mom and dad fell in love immediately with their baby girl and were so shocked by her beauty. Mom was also surprised by how much hair their newborn baby girl had.

Kensley’s first few days home with mom and dad were “overwhelming and tiring.” I think most first-time moms and dads would agree that brand new little ones are exhausting but oh-so-worth it.

Kensley’s hands and feet are just one of mom and dad’s favorite qualities. JHP was sure to capture those tiny details! Go on and check out this custom newborn session.

Imagine nothing but girls for 52 years and you have caught a glimpse into what mom’s family is like on her father’s side. Girls! Girls! Girls! That is, until Mr. Brayden came along. Brayden is also the family’s first grandson on mom’s side after having six granddaughters.

Baby prep was so “exciting” as mom got to “dive into all things blue after having our daughter Brielle.” I can only imagine that grandma and grandpa felt thrilled too.

Brielle loved Brayden from the first moment that she met him. She had been kissing mom’s belly for months after all. Brielle is so proud of Brayden and has taken on the role of mom and dad’s helper. She enjoys spending time with her little guy and doing things to help him. You can truly see the love big sis has for little brother in their image below. What a blessing their relationship must be to mom and dad!

“Our family is complete,” mom says.

Look at that smile.

Such a happy little man!
